1、 Choice of grinding wheel for surface grinder

1. Abrasive

When the material of the gear to be ground is hardened alloy steel and high-speed steel of general brand, the abrasive shall be white corundum (WA), chromium corundum (PA) or the mixed abrasive of white corundum and chromium corundum.

2. Hardness

The higher the hardness of the gear to be ground, the softer the hardness of the grinding wheel. When grinding teeth with a shaped grinding wheel, a slightly soft grinding wheel shall be selected because the contact surface of the grinding wheel is large and it is easy to burn the tooth surface. However, in order to maintain the geometric accuracy of the grinding wheel, it shall not be too soft. During dry grinding, due to poor heat dissipation, the hardness of the selected grinding wheel should also be softer.

3. Particle size

The particle size shall be selected to ensure the tooth surface accuracy and surface roughness of the gear to be ground. The higher the tooth surface accuracy and the lower the surface roughness value, the finer the particle size shall be selected.

4. Bond

Generally, ceramic binder with stable performance is selected. In case of high-speed grinding, special ceramic binder suitable for high-speed grinding shall be selected. When the requirements of tooth surface accuracy and surface roughness of the gear to be ground are very high and the grinding allowance is relatively large, the grinding wheels with different hardness and particle size can be selected for rough and fine grinding respectively.

2、 Grinding wheel balance of surface grinder

Gear grinding is precision machining, and the balance of grinding wheel is very important. Otherwise, the grinding wheel will vibrate during grinding, which will affect the accuracy and surface roughness of the gear tooth surface to be ground, and even affect the service life of the gear grinder.

The grinding wheel must undergo two times of static balance. After one static balance, the grinding wheel shall be roughly repaired, then balanced, and finally the grinding wheel shall be finely repaired. For worm grinding wheel, because of its large size and heavy quality, it must be adjusted to ensure that the gear ground by the grinding machine has high precision and low surface roughness.
